MY BABY

Canon 5D Mk iv. My dream camera. With the L series 24-70 Lens. This just does practically everything. My total workhorse. It brings me serious joy just looking at this camera! AND, just my personal opinion - it feels great in your hand to hold. Mirrorless are cool and all, but this makes you feel like you’re holding an epic piece of machinery.

My (absolute!) Essentials

MY SECOND

Canon 80D with it’s stock 18-55. I use this for all my talking head YouTubes and took a HUGE amount of my portfolio shots on this thing. Also, with the flip out screen, it’s great for both behind AND in front of the lens. Don’t underestimate the stock lens that comes with it.

It’s been superseded by the 90D now.

THAT LENS

If you can only upgrade one thing - get this 50mm 1.8 prime. It changes the game. AND it’s one of the cheapest ways to upgrade - especially if you have a lower end camera.

CAPTURE IT

SanDisk Extreme PRO SD card and Compact Flash card. Ive got the 64GB, but you can upgrade to 128 and higher. These have good capture and transfer rates - in case you don’t know, your card will also contribute to how many shots you can capture in burst shot mode.

Dear Santa…

One of my goals this year is to start volunteering with Heartfelt, offering photography for families experiencing loss. I’m hoping to invest in a 100mm macro lens — something that will allow me to capture the smallest, most meaningful details gently and respectfully, without needing to be physically close. It’s a lens that offers intimacy from a distance — something especially important in these moments. We’ve been blessed with 3 healthy babies - not everyone is as lucky and stepping in quietly in those moments for the family, is a calling I feel with my photography.

And the other pieces of equipment I want are purely for fun. Just because.

I’ve been wanting a DJI Mini 3 drone for so long now, that it’s been superseded by the Mini 4. lol. And, in keeping with DJI - I’ve also been itching to get the OSMO Pocket 3.

Both of which I think are next level for creatives. Being able to capture someone’s special day both in stills and on video? AND the insane shots from drones that give you such a sense of place - Fun AND growth? I’m in!
